JAMAICA: Measures to support MSMEs in response to COVID-19
Find below some measures available in Jamaica to support MSMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic:
More than 2,000 products are being offered on the website from the current 423 clients in the Things Jamaican client base. Consumers can shop for items on the website, https://thingsjamaicanshopping.com/ under the categories of aromatherapy, fashion and accessories, Fi Wi (Our) Tings, Home Accents, Nyammings, Literature, Pikni (Kids) Tings and Yaad Tings. Things Jamaican is the retail arm of the JBDC. It provides market access and includes retailing opportunities that aim to promote and build Brand Jamaica.
The initiative aims to: stimulate innovation and productivity among MSMEs with growth potential; promote sustainable and disruptive growth in scalable start-ups; and create a sustainable pipeline of high-growth potential start-ups and supporting entrepreneurship ecosystem.
“All of our small businesses can get a grant of up to $100,000 to help them through this time, and that is in addition to the $375,000 rebate (tax credit) as part of the stimulus package that was announced by the Ministry of Finance. We are looking out for our small businesses", Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Floyd Green, said.
Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, says an additional $1billion has been allocated to the Ministry’s Productivity Incentive Programme (PIP) to assist small farmers in light of challenges being experienced because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team from the Ministry, led by State Minister Floyd Green, sat down with President of the Association Annabel Williams and Secretary, Angella Bardowell on Wednesday, May 13 where the Ministry committed to covering storage and slaughtering costs for 1000 pigs per month for the next three (3) months.
