Finding myself in a country I was completely unfamiliar with, I had two options: give up or find a way to adapt. Just as I was about to finish college in South America and was looking forward to studying art in Spain, my father was offered a job in the United States and moved our entire family there. I found myself all alone in a foreign country whose culture was completely unfamiliar to me. After letting myself wallow in self-pity, I made a choice to rise up to this challenge and overcame many obstacles, and completely reinvented myself. Little did I know that overcoming these challenges would serve me well when I entered into the world of commercial insurance. I saw that many business leaders struggled with similar obstacles to mine when trying to expand their companies internationally and had to navigate new languages, systems, and ways of conducting business. My experience in overcoming these cultural differences made me an ideal candidate to serve these business leaders, understanding what their needs were My name is Monica Varas. I am the founder of Varas Insurance Brokerage. I remember one client who came to me with concerns about expanding his business into Mexico. I was able to customize a solution which allowed him to successfully open a factory and with our guidance, went onto open three stores in Europe as well.
