The Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts, and Agriculture is a public body in charge of the general interests of the Italian Chamber system. Founded in 1901, the Union represents and connects the Chamber system with local, national and international institutions. Unioncamere also ensures the representation of Italian Chambers of commerce within Eurochambres (the association joining European national Chamber systems); and a worldwide connection with other chamber systems both through the network of Italian Chambers of commerce abroad and through the network of mixed or foreign Chambers in Italy. In order to carry out its tasks, Unioncamere promotes and supports the collaboration between the Chamber system and entrepreneurs', consumers' and workers' organisations. Unioncamere and the Chambers of commerce are both regulated by Law no. 580 of 1993 and its following provisions. In recent years, the law has considerably increased the role and functions entrusted.
