The prices were so low at some point that he decided to give it to the animals. My mom came up with the idea to make chips out of it. She was a teacher at that moment and started making chips in her small kitchen and sold it on school. Me and my brother were paid 1 guilder to fill little bags while watching television it he living room. She went to school on her bike so, one shopping bag full with chips on 1 side and books on the other side of the bike. The demand for chips got bigger as she started selling it to supermarkets. She first converted my dad’s garage into an outside kitchen, gave up her teacher career and became an a full time entrepreneur! I forgot to say, afterward she drove the family car to deliver chips to supermarkets! I could not have imaged that after 35 years; I would have my office at the same spot were a I sat as a teenager filling small bags of chips! In January 2021 my partner and I took over the family business and my mother enjoys her well-earned retirement!
